Being Vegetarian

In the past, when people are not much concerned about the concept of healthy lifestyle, the term "vegetarian" seemed eccentric and faddish. But as people learned about the value of achieving well-being through a good lifestyle, the vegetarian lifestyle became something a lot of people want to try - whether to lose weight or prevent and heal diseases.

With various restaurants offering strictly vegetarian food and different promotional campaigns of this lifestyle, it is no doubt that vegetarian diet and lifestyle has become a crusade to many health conscious individuals and organizations. Turning vegetarian does not only suit people who have certain diseases or need to follow religious conviction. Turning vegetarian has a lot of benefits to a person's overall health and well-being.

When one eats vegetarian food, it means he abstains from meat, some more rigid vegetarians called vegan do not even eat products from animals such as dairy and eggs. While some other less rigid vegetarians include fish and/or eggs and dairy products to their diet. To fulfill their protein requirement, vegetarians eat beans and soy bean curd. Aside from protein, soy bean curd is good in preventing development of cancer to one's body. Isoflavones in soya is also good in fighting heart diseases, stroke, and osteoporosis.

Cancer has been among the diseases which cause death to millions worldwide. Turning vegetarian is a good way of fighting of or even preventing the development of such disease. Aside from cancer, heart disease is another growing concern in the health industry. Due to poor lifestyle and diet, many people develop certain heart problems. To prevent having such problems, it is advised that one should shift to active lifestyle and vegetarian diet. In several studies, it was found out that regular intake of fruits and a vegetable reduces mortality from heart disease.

Moreover, studies also show that people who are permanent vegetarians have improved overall health condition and well-being aside from being free from many diseases. Stroke and Diabetes are among diseases connected to bad habit and lifestyle. Being a vegetarian also is a good way to fight off these diseases. When a person consumes more nuts and whole grains, his chances of acquiring diabetes also lessens.

A vegetarian improves his well-being with the food he consumes. Vegetarian food is usually composed of berries, grains, beans and nuts. Eating these kinds of food regularly bring enough energy, vitamins and nutrients, so one will feel energized without having to consume other nutrient sources such as animal meat and fish. Moreover, studies show that inclusion of legumes to one's diet will dramatically lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels as well as improve blood sugar control. Various kinds of nut on the other hand, are perfect source of potassium, vitamin E, magnesium, folic acid, and dietary fiber which are important in improving a person's overall health.
